Eboe Hutchful
Eboe Hutchful, a Ghanaian political scientist, is Professor of African
Studies and executive director of African Security Dialogue and
Research (ASDR), an NGO located in Accra, Ghana, and involved in
research and advocacy in the area of civil-military relations and
governance of the security sector. Professor Hutchful has also taught
at several other universities in Africa and North America, including
the University of Toronto, the University of Port Harcourt, and
the University of Ghana. His research work has been primarily in
the areas of militarism, the politics of economic reform, and the
environment, all areas in which he has published extensively. He
is author and co-editor of several books and a large number of journal
articles, including The Military and Militarism in Africa(CODESRIA,
1998) with Abdoulaye Bathily, Ghana's Adjustment Experience:
The Paradox of Reform (James Currey, 2002), and a forthcoming
work on civil control of the armed forces in Ghana. Over the past
two years he has been actively involved in networking and consulting
with international and donor organizations and African civil society
groups in discussing, designing and promoting democratic civil-military
relations and security sector reform. He has participated in a large
number of international meetings on security and conflict issues,
among them meetings hosted by DFID, the ACSS, and NDI, and the Global
Coalition for Africa. He is member and chair of the African Leadership
Forum's Experts Group on Security and Demilitarization in Africa,
and heads a research network on Security Sector Reform and Democratization
in Africa.
