Lawrence A. Scaff  (Ph.D., University of California at Berkeley). Professor. 

    Professor Scaff recently served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.  Before coming to Wayne State, he was  Chair of the Department of Political Science at Penn State University.  He also has held appointments at the University of Arizona and several German universities.  His fields of specialization include political and social theory, modern European political and social thought, the philosophy and history of the social sciences, and the comparative politics of Western Europe. He is an authority on Max Weber.  His book,  Fleeing the Iron Cage:  Culture, Politics, and Modernity in the Thought of Max Weber, has been published in several languages.  He is author of  dozens of articles and book chapters on Max Weber and German economic, social, and political thought.    He teaches a course on Politics and the Order of Terror.
