TAKE HOME EXAM, PART II

Please complete all three sections, planning about 10+ pages overall.  Treat these as individual essays (in effect two 5 page papers).
Try to follow the principles we have discussed:

• A clear thesis paragraph that makes an argument and provides an organizational schema for the paper, and;

• A well-organized paper that follows the organization laid out in the thesis paragraph.

Section I.

Is a rational choice approach consistent with any of the other approaches we have discussed so far?  In what way does it differ from the other approaches?  In what way is it consistent?  Illustrate the consistencies and inconsistencies with concrete examples of research from your readings in this class or other reading you have done.

Section II. 

If you were forced to sit down now and write a doctoral dissertation, what question would you try to answer?  What do you think is the answer?  What are some other possible answer for the question?  What methods would you use to figure out which of these answers is better than the others?  (Yes I know this is an impossible task, but the point is to do the best with the impossible that you can in 5 pages).
